Recipes for Air Fresheners & Laundry

Air Freshener Spray

Mix 1/2 cup fresh lavender buds
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
1 tbsp whole cloves

STEEP 1/2 cup vodka (enough to cover)
Let stand 2 weeks, shaking daily
Decant and strain.

ADD 5 drops lavender
8 drops tea tree oil
5 drops peppermint oil

Stir until oils have dissolved.
Mix with 1 cup distilled water.
Use: Place in spray bottle. Don't spray in someones face or on fine furniture.


Citrus Air Freshener

Few slices lemon, orange or grapefruit
1 pot of water

Put slices of fruit into the pot of water. Let simmer gently for an hour or so.


Disinfectant Room Spray

15 dr Lavender EO
8 dr Orange Or Lemon EO
2 dr Eucalyptus EO
2 oz Water

Add essential oils to water and keep in spritzer bottle. Some essential oil will float to the top, so shake well before using. Use in place of chemical cleaners like 409.


Fabric and Room Deoderizer Spray

2 C. fabric softener
2 C. baking soda
4 C. warm water

Mix and place in a spray bottle. Use just like you would the expensive version from the store.


Fabric/Laundry Product Recipes


Bleach/Brightener Substitute

1 cup hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup lemon or grapefruit juice
12 cups of water

Store in a labeled plastic jug. Add 2 cups per load.


Fabric Whitener

1 part cream of tartar
3 parts water

Use to whiten white linen or cotton.


Homemade "oxyclean"

1/2 c. Hydrogen peroxide
1/2 c. baking soda
1c. hot water

MIX TOGETHER AND APPLY TO STAINS, OR ADD TO MASHINE AND WASH AS USUAL.


Pre-Wash Stain Spray

1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
2 Tablespoons ammonia
3 cups of water

Stir together and fill a labeled spray bottle. Spray on heavily soiled spots just before washing (test a hidden spot for colorfastness first.)


Fabric Waterproofer

3 C. soybean oil
1 1/2 C. turpentine
Mix and paint on outer surface. Allow to dry.

NOTE: USE ONLY ON OUTDOOR-TYPE ARTICLES SUCH AS CANVAS TENTS AND BAGS.


Flame Retardant

1 oz. water glass (sodium silicate)
9 oz. water

Mix well. Wash and rinse article completely before applying this solution. Soak fabric in solution. Hang up to dry.

CAUTION: Water glass is caustic to skin and toxic upon ingestion. Wear gloves and handle carefully. As always, keep water glass away from children.
